Chas. Earnest Dies After Fatal Fall in Le Mars
Charles L. Earnest of 214 Plymouth St. and W in Le Mars died June 9 1957 at Sacred Heart hospital after brain injury from a fall down basement steps. Born April 24 1885 near Remsen he married Theresa Wiltgen in 1908 at Alton and ran Earnest Brothers bakery in Le Mars for 45 years retiring three years ago. Survived by two daughters a son five grandchildren and four sisters with funeral set for St James Catholic Church Le Mars.

The piece notes prices were then thought affordable, unlike today under government action. Stores faced fewer taxes and no sales tax at that time.
