Worse Than Flood Hits Iowa Towns Across Regions

A devastating weather event inundated Floyd river valleys and nearby towns, triggering widespread damage from Le Mars to Hawarden. Rail lines disabled, roads washed out, and hundreds marooned as floodwaters rose, with tornado threats and rescue efforts by National Guard and volunteers continuing through the night.

Congressman Charles B. Hoeven charged government waste and praised British attitude as aid to Reds. Death of Leonard Rolls in tent fire tragedy

Leonard Rolls former roller skating operator dies from third degree burns after an explosion while waterproofing a tent near Le Mars. The accident occurred as he handled waterproofing material, causing a flare and fatal injuries. The Milwaukee-born veteran had become a familiar figure at the rink near Highway 75.

Damage to Crops From Heavy Rains in Plymouth County

Band Concert at Municipal Park Programme

Wednesday June 10 at Foster Park the Municipal Band presents a varied programme led by America H Carey with selections including The World Weaning for the Sunrise Faust Ch Gounot Waltz Bell of the Ball Folk Song Novelty Hayride and more. Rounds Flooded After Floyd River Flood Damages Farm

Roy Rounds reports 7:00 a m flood losses near Le Mars amounting to 25 000 to 30 000 with cattle and 40 baby chicks affected. Rescue boats from Sioux City saved men near the Donald Gee home while debris damaged a motor and 2 13 by 20 foot boat. Water rose to 2 feet inside the first floor as cattle were moved to higher ground and buildings flooded.

Marine Lance Corporal On 30 Day Leave From Marines

Charley Kramer son of Mr and Mrs Lewis Kramer returned to Le Mars on Sunday for a thirty day leave from the Marines. After his leave is over he will return to camp to receive discharge papers. The picture shows him while serving in the Hawaiian Islands.

Koppert Rites Held For Henry A Koppert

Funeral services were held Saturday for Henry A Al Koppert 67 former shop keeper at Le Mars burial in Le Mar cemetery. Born July 3 1885 in Luxembourg Iowa he lived in Hospers Alton before moving to Le Mars in 1927. He ran a garden tool shop and married Carolina Machinan September 26 1917 at Onawa Iowa. Surviving are his wife a daughter Mrs Jack Robb of Ann Arbor Michigan three sons Robert Leo and Eugene a sister two brothers and several grandchildren.

S D Maner son of Dr and Mrs Al Mo Maner graduates from the University of Iowa College of Medicine on Friday June 12. He attended Le Macs high school class of 1943 Westmar 1945 46 served in the Army discharged 1948 and earned liberal arts degree from the State University of Iowa. He is Phi Beta Pi Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha member and begins an internship July 1 at Cincinnati General Hospital.
