The 10 cent per bushel fixed storage pay and 16 cent rate for keeping corn on farm boost the county toward a 60 million bushel reseal goal. Remsen’s new $55,000 pool opened Friday drawing many children and adults. Over 800 people were enrolled in lessons, with about 100 per class, and more than 400 students attended the first day. The pool uses a filter cycling 630 gallons per minute, renewing all water in six hours. Managers report full morning classes and growing interest from nearby towns amid plans for more park space and possible tennis and picnic areas. Funeral services for Thomas C Thompson 80 who died Friday night at Sacred Heart hospital Le Mars followed a brief illness were held Monday at Church of the Brethren Kingsley. Rev Vernon Powell officiated with burial in Kingsley cemetery. Born October 16 1875 in Denmark he came to the United States as a young man and settled near Kingsley. He labored as a farmhand most of his life and had lived with Mr and Mrs Earl Loutsch of Remsen the last years. Mrs Loutsch is his great-niece. Survivors include a sister Mrs Minnie Nebon of Luke Andes South Dakota and several nieces and nephews. Dickinson funeral home Kingsley in charge of arrangements.

A chain reaction wreck seven miles east of Spirit Lake near highway 9 injured three passengers in the Braun car. Audrey Peiper drove into a ditch, prompting a three-vehicle slowdown. Five Flyaway Planes Lost At Westmar Airport Contest
An estimated 520 persons witnessed part of a model airplane contest at Westmar Airport on Sunday. Five planes were lost including a six foot Keoneke model by Richard T. Koeneke of Worthington Minnesota. The plane rose on a motorized ascent then drifted into a thermal and remained aloft for hours before likely landing in a tree or field near Le Mars. John Medrano formerly of Le Mars and Merrill died at the Veterans hospital in Hot Springs on July 20 1956 after a long illness. He was 65 and had lived at the hospital home since 1954.
