Farm Forced Under Water Near Plymouth County

A South Dakota ranch near Bijoo Hii, 50 miles west of Platte, faces 40 feet of floodwater as the dam project submerges bottom lands. Mr. and Mrs. Dolor Turgeon own the 6,000 acre ranch once praised for its bottom land and hills. They, like many farmers upriver, expected fair compensation rather than loss of their finest land. The water already floods the barn, and the house will sit beneath the rising lake.

Ireton Deal Reallocates Cafe and Homes

A Saturday evening deal transfers ownership of the City Cafe and the 7 room residence to Mrs. Dick Vreeman. Mr. Vander Hamm takes the 5 room cottage from the Vreemans, with possession dates set for February 1 and March 1. Mrs. Vreeman has cafe experience from Sioux Center. Vander Hamm will move to Rock Rapids where his husband is in business. The WCTU meeting is set for Thursday January 28 at 2:30 p.m. at Mrs. Handerd home with Miss Florence Hof as assistant hostess. Mrs. Elen Gerling and Mr. Carrie Hahn lead the program. Mrs. Mike Roever of Le Mars was notified of her mother’s unexpected death. Mr. Katie Weber, 83, of Ponca Nebraska, died last Wednesday. Funeral and burial were held in St. Joseph Catholic church and South Creek cemetery.

Bert How and wife mark th wedding anniversary in Le Mars

Mr and Mrs Bert How of Le Mars hosted an open house Sunday January 17 to celebrate their th wedding anniversary. Guests included family and friends, with a buffet lunch and decorations in wedding colors. The couple wed January 14 1914 in Merri Town. They lived on a Merritt area farm before moving west of Le Mars in 1928 and retired in 1942. They have four children and numerous grandchildren and a sister-in-law attended.
