Gas Fire Kicks Off Real Fire Drill

Pupils in the Central Building of Le Mars Public Schools evacuated about 11 a.m. when a pressure regulator on a gas stove in the Home Economics room loosened and caused a gas flare. Four tenth grade home economics students worked under Mrs Lola Stellplug: Veronia Renken Randy Marienau Verdin Renken and Janice Westhoff. Fire chief and superintendent coordinated the drill. gas was burning off until repaired by Iowa Public Service Company workers.

Roger Schultz Breaks Into Sci Fi Thriller Role

Bob Schultz, in Revenge of the Colossal Man, stars opposite Sally Fraser under a Glendale News Press note. The film marks his first credited break, not Oscar caliber, yet demonstrates ability to handle dialogue and team scenes. Winter Sledding and Skating Party Planned by ICF

An Inter Christian Fellowship notice invites post high schoolers to join a Friday January 16 event at 7:30 PM at the Baptist Church Le Mars. Vollmer Replaces Poeckes at Sioux City Diocese Paper

Very Rev. Msgr. Edward Y. Vollmer, editor of the Globe, Catholic newspaper for the Sioux City diocese, is named pastor of St Lawrence parish Carroll. He succeeds the late Rev. Arthur Peeckes. Effective January 15. Rev. Frank Brady will replace Vollmer as Globe editor. Brady is a Sioux City native.

Icy Roads Cause Truck Crash and Injuries Near Hinton

Ronald Andersen named shop foreman at Anderson Shop in Remsen. A Le Mars transfer, he will commute daily until fall then move to Remsen. 1953 Central High School grad, served in the navy for two years after a brief stint at Mars Globe Post. He later worked for Bell Paper, Moville Record, Holstein Advance, and Moss Mills Le Mars before joining the Bell Paterpolice. He is married to Geraldine Penning of Guanville who runs a beauty shop in Le Mars.

Farm Bureau Scholarship Offers 28 Two Year Grants

Farm Bureau women begin the third year of scholarships for outstanding high school seniors aiming to become teachers. Twenty eight two year scholarships funded by Farm Bureau are available. Applicants must live in a county, be in the upper third of the 1958 or 1959 graduating class, be financially able to attend college, be in good health, and pursue teacher training. Nominations must come from the applicant’s county in Plymouth County. Applications to the County Farm Bureau Women’s department are due by March 1, 1959 and to the county office by February 21, 1959. In a Cal/NC suit, Bible Publishers Incorporated of Charlotte alleges Mattose Body Shop owes 597.80 for December 1957 book purchases plus interest. The action, filed in San Mateo County, targets Bessie Abbott Wara and ex-husband Albert Abbott in a divorce settlement dispute, claiming amounts are due and owing.

Accidents at Plymouth Street crossing and Second Street intersection

On Sunday January 1 there were two accidents reported. Larry Johnson driving a 1958 Chevrolet east on Plymouth Street was struck by an IC freight train causing $50 damage. At the Rcath Street and 31 Avenue SW intersection Thomas Kass of Le Mars in a 1951 Oldsmobile westbound and Jerry Meister in a 1953 Ford northbound on Ard Avenue collided. Kass sustained left front damage and Meister had $730 damage to the right side with no estimate.
