Banks Elect Their Officials in Le Mars Meetings

The Le Mars Savings Bank and the First National Bank held their annual stockholders meetings on Tuesday, January 8. Savings Bank re elected officers and directors including Gordon L. Mennen and H. J. Ahlers, with staff changes in the trust, cashier, and assist roles. First National Bank re elected all officers and directors and added Henry D. Hartman and Patricia Kanago as assistant cashiers. The banks reported a successful year with progress across departments.

Fire destroys seven room farmhouse near Akron

A blaze wrecked a seven room farmhouse eight miles west of Akron and inDakota near Elk Point destroying the home at 80 acre Frank Bennett owner and Don Harkness tenant. The furnace basement and a deep freeze plus all contents burned. $800 cash was lost. All five Harkness children were at school and Mrs Harkness was away shopping. neighbors aided as the house and shed burned. Insurance had lapsed. Bennett and family are staying with relatives in Elk Point.

Main couple observes 72nd wedding anniversary

Mr and Mrs George Main celebrate 72 years of marriage with a family dinner on Monday January 14. They were married in Elk Point South Dakota on January 14 1885. The couple has two daughters Grace Spaulding and Mrs Keith Knapp of Westfield along with three grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

A December 29 wedding at Arlington Church united Tyler Waite and Donald to create a Texas and Washington D C alliance. Mrs Henry Kling 78 dies in Long Beach after short illness

Mrs Henry Kling 78 of Long Beach California died at home January 8 after a short illness. Purial services were held Thursday at Christensen-Fine Funeral Home in Long Beach. Emma Schulz born January 1880 in Otter Township was married to Henry Kling March 17 at Le Mars Iowa. They lived in Stanton and Merrill before moving to Long Beach in 1947. They observed their golden wedding on March 1, 1953. Survivors include the widow and one son Fred of Long Beach, California. a sister Mrs August Kling of Beach. several nephews and one niece in the Merrill vicinity.
