Central And Gehlen Are Winners

Le Mars Bulldogs beat Carroll as Gehlen boys defeated Akron 63 to 36 at Le Mars. Gehlen led 31 to 22 at halftime with Vollmar scoring 22 and Barcers 20 for Akron. In the preliminary game Gehlen won 36 to 31. Carroll fell to Le Mars 60 to 40 with Bob Whelan scoring 29 for Le Mars and Dave Boidt 10 for Carroll.

Bulldogs Slip to Fifth in Siouxland High Rankings

The Le Mary Bulldogs fall to fifth after a 67 to 62 loss to Sibley last week. Sioux Falls, Manning, and Webster City hold the top three, with Sibley fourth and Carroll in sixth. Manning, Webster City, Sibley, Le Mars and Carroll listed in the Northwest Iowa AAA rating.

Westmar College bids bid on new Student Union project

Westmar College received 18 bids for the erection of a Student Union and Dining Hall. The lowest bids for general contract plumbing heating ventilation refrigeration and electrical wiring totaled 250761.00. Officials say the bid is well within their estimate and contracts will be awarded within a week. Groundbreaking ceremonies are expected within a few weeks to a month.

Funeral for Joe Hey 73 Held at Marcus Holy Name

Joe Hey 73 died Wednesday from a heart attack. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Marcus Holy Name Catholic church with burial in the church cemetery under Ne'san funeral home direction. He was born July 28, 1883, in New Vienna, Iowa, and lived in Marcus for 60 years. For 36 years he operated a harness shop. Survivors include his widow Lil Jian of Marcus, a son Joe Jr, and three grandchildren, all of Clinton, Iowa.

Mrs Kathaine Brown a lifelong Hinton resident died Thursday in Sioux City hospital after brief illness. Born December 27, 1890 she married Clyde Brown in 1911. Mrs Dora Petersen 77 formerly of Merrill died Wednesday after a years long sickness. Born January 28 1880 in Denmark she came to America at age 3 and lived in Harlan before moving to Merrill in 1902.
