Lloyd Mayer president of the Masonic Temple association said rumors that the Ralfs Baker Mfg Co plant would be leased to a firm making sub assemblies for a large appliance maker are untrue. He noted the Ralfs Baker plans to renew its lease, with only minor building maintenance details to resolve, and emphasized the value of the local labor pool. Le Mars Drives Set National Record for 1952 Campaign

Father L J LaVelle reported that Le Mars led the nation in Catholic school fundraising in 1952. A Lawson Associates study covered about 150 drives nationwide for nursing homes, hospitals, gyms, schools and churches. Le Mars’ Gehlen schools drive raised pledges totaling 375,000, 240 percent of the goal, a national record, with Algona as the second Iowa city.

John B. Wolf died after a six month illness at 83. Born September 13 1869 in Bellvue Iowa he moved to the area as a youth and married Mary Ann Schicker on June 22 1897 in Remsen. Edgar Hirsch a well known Le Mars automobile parts dealer died after a weeklong illness following surgery at St. Joseph’s hospital in Sioux City. He was 46, married since 1917 to Violet Schaper and survived by wife, four children, three brothers and one sister with burial at Le Mars city cemetery.

Le Mars planning commission discussed future needs of the sanitary sewer system at its regular meeting in City Hall. Major Long reported on overall sewer problems and possible extensions or improvements, noteing state health board may require a sewerage disposal plant in about five years.
