The Globe-Post reports on an historic shop clean-up revealing what may be the world’s first electronic photo engraving. A plate from about 14 years earlier shows engravings made with a plastic sheet and stylus driven by a device akin to a loudspeaker, rated at 75 watts, designed and built by Globe-Post employees.
Henrich critiques corn policy shifts and allotments arguing Congress set base acres not Benson. He cites senators who opposed larger allotments, references Eisenhower vetoes, and questions how to control diverted acres under the allotment plan. He urges restoring soil bank protections with a base of one million acres.
Lifetime Granville resident Miss Minnie Bussannaas died December 9, 1986 at Community Memorial Hospital Sheldon after months of illness. She was 73, born September 17, 191? in Mateus. Funeral services set for St Joseph Catholic Church Granville with Tisch Funeral Home Remsen directing. Survivors include brothers Harry Bussannaas and Gregor Bussannaas, both of Granville.
The Le Mars market features old oats corn soy beans and flax along with heavy hens and roosters. Dairy items include cream and sweet cream. Egg offerings cover large medium under grade and pullet eggs.
The Globe-Post will publish Babson's Business and Financial Forecast for 1957. Babson’s accuracy record is highlighted, with 85 percent correctness over the last eighteen years. Profiles Roger W. Babson, his institutes, and influence on business forecasting and education. A note mentions Mrs. Jean Halwey visiting Bancroft, Nebr., for her granddaughter Trudy Lee born November 28 in Sioux City.
An informal survey by E W Rogers shows Le Mars enjoying unusually heavy business Friday and Saturday as Catholics visited town for church on a holy day. Families shopped after services, aided by free movies at the Royal Theatre from 10 AM to 4 PM and no ticketing needed. Food stores led the crowd activity.
The Globs-Post notes that most Le Mars shops now carry new fresh Christmas trees from Council Oak, O P Skaggs, Le Mars Fruit and Grocery, Dorrs Food Market, Buds Super Valu, and Nuebels Grocery. Trees should be firmly supported and kept away from heat. mounting in sugar water can reduce needle drop and avoid fire hazards from lights.
Reverend M Fruehling who has served Christ Lutheran Church Grant Township for three and a half years accepted a call to St Johny American Lutheran Church Prairie du Lac Wisconsin. A call meeting to select a new pastor for Christ Lutheran will be held Thursday December 13 at 2 00 p m with H W Siefkes D D Waterloo Iowa president of the Iowa District American Lutheran Church leading the service.
Mrs Ella Hauck and son Adolph were in a Cadillac when it struck a crippled steer on the Remsen road. The collision damaged the car front and caused a blowout but the car did not overturn. Mrs Hauck suffered bruises and shock and was cared for in Remsen before returning home to Le Mars. The steer and other cattle had fallen from a truck owned by Joe Hoffman of Oyens.
Tarkio rallied to defeat Westman 80 75 after Pat Dougherty scored a late surge. Westman led 75 74 entering the final minute as Dick Custle Wayne Dedager and Dick Peve contributed 24 16 and 22 points before Tarkio's decisive finish.
A radio controlled model plane went missing south of Le Mars on a Saturday. The craft flew east then southeast of town before disappearing in snowy conditions. The owner places a loss value near a million dollars tied to another government Snark aircraft, while a Mars area search pinpoints the downed plane to a single section.
The Coast to Coast Store in Winterset hosted a fall sale contest with 640 independently owned outlets. Local prize winners Ira Levering Walter Martfeld Mr and Mrs Charles Gordon and Mr and Mrs Clarence Goettsch are set for five day Palm Springs vacations, first class travel, Biltmore Hotel. Gordon party leaves December 2 on Western Airlines Red Carpet Flight.
Mr and Mrs Mainard Stinton of 127 Sid St NL Wi Le Mars announce the engagement of their daughter Loree to Gerald Kneip son of Mr and Mrs Nick Kneip Le Mars No wedding date has been set.
Plymouth county juvenile authorities may handle the case of 16 year old Larry Landgraf of Le Mars after Sioux City police found him driving a stolen car. The vehicle, taken from Harley Stockburger of Spirit Lake, was parked on a Hin ton street. A Sioux City girl, 5, was also involved but misidentified as from Le Mars by some papers. sheriff Frank Scholer confirmed she is from Sioux City. Landgraf, on parole for under a year, had previously admitted stealing money and a girl’s clothes in a prior escapade and may serve out his time.
Burglars broke into Hilltop Service station in Remsen between Saturday night and Sunday, stealing about 8 dollars in change and several packs of Pall Mall and Lucky Strike cigarettes. A General Electric TV in a marginal plastic case was taken, with the loud speaker removed for use elsewhere. Sheriff Scholer indicated the theft appeared amateurish and urged vigilance for youths seen with the TV set or smoking Pall Mall cigarettes.
A local public marriage notice announces that Genin Babcock and Cieneviese Babcock of Sou City will remarry. The application lists Ul mer Riles of Soux Cay and Mar jone Waddell of Mapleton, Iowa, as parties involved in the event.

Mr and Mrs Hugo Wellnitz celebrate their pollen wedding anniversary with open house next Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at their home followed by a family dinner. Married December 13, 1906, they farmed until 1942 then retired to town. They have a daughter Mrs Walter van der Hanm on the farm, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Attendants Mrs Reimer Erlts and Gustave Vio of Le Murs will attend. They request no gifts.

Albert Engbers sues Ed Rolling for 863.67 dollars plus 5 percent annual interest from March 24, 1954, plus court costs for goods sold between October 21, 1951 and March 24, 1986.

Fire department from Le Mans responded to a Friday evening blaze at the Leonard Schulty home in Seney. Fire Chief Don Dambik said about $2,000 in damage occurred and the cause was listed as ineffective heating.

Mrs Minnie De Raad died December 3 1956 at Sacred Heart hospital Mars Iowa after a long illness. She lived with daughter Mrs J N MacDougall for five years and previously resided in Ireton for 40 years. Born May 31 1878 in Alton Iowa she married Albert De Raad August 30 1899 in Alton. Survived by five children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral December 7 at Ireton with Reverends Hanke and Aalbers officiating. burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery, Ireton.
Joseph N. Treinen 87, longtime Remsen area resident, died Sunday at University Hospitals Iowa City after a long illness. Born January 28 1869 in Red Wing Minnesota he moved to Remsen area at 17 and married Margaret Lehnerty February 13 1898. He farmed until retirement and moved to Remsen in 1932. Survivors include three daughters Mrs Oliver Snyder Sanborn Mrs Robert O Leary Detroit and Miss Blanche Treinen Glendale Calif seven sons Albert Sioux Rapids Leonard Edmund Le Mars Francis LeRoy Claude and Lewis Remsen three brothers Nicholas Charles Remsen Felix Marcus and a sister Mrs Mary Steinfort Detroit Lakes Minnesota. Mrs Treinen died in 1951. Rosary 4 p.m. Tuesday Fisch funeral home Remsen. Funeral 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St Mary Catholic Church Remsen officiated by Rt Rev Msgr Francis Schultes. Burial parish cemetery.
Military services were held for Joseph Haag a Sheldon resident for twenty years. He died Monday in his Sheldon hotel room after a week of failing health. Survived by three brothers John Le Mars Andy Wyoming Minnesota and Syl Hospers. preceded by parents and Laurence. Funeral attended by Haag families from Le Mars Wyoming and Hospers.
Funeral services were held for Bernice Lauters of El Cerrito California aged 42 who died Wednesday in a California hospital. Burial followed in San Pablo California. Survivors include husband Fred E a daughter Zoe Francis of Houston a son Donald of Los Angeles her father Patrick Swaitt two sisters Clara Skusa Mars Woods both of Sioux City two brothers Leo Swain Fremont Neb Geo Swan Pampa Texas and a grandson.
Albert W Bartels aged 84 died at home after a brief illness. He was born December 6 1869 in Hamburg Germany and came to the United States at age 22, settling in West Side. He farmed in Crawford county, married Anna Hepp, lived near Danbury for about 10 years, then moved to Mapleton and later to Hinton in 1947. He was a member of Tram Lutheran church near Hinton. Survived by a son Walter of Banki and two sisters Mrs Bertha Vandurh and Mrs John Tall of Mapleton, with six grandchildren. Funeral services held at Nelson Berger north side funeral home and Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev T W Heilmann officiating. Pallbearers named.
Born in Sioux City a daughter to Mr and Mrs Darwin Brink of Merrill. Several people including Watt Collins, Mrs Blance LaBahn, Mrs George Smith and others listed as patients at Sacred Heart hospital. Additional births at Sacred Heart include children of Mr and Mrs Weber Marcus and Mr and Mrs Rensink Sioux Center. Transfers and injuries involve Mrs Van Oosterhout Orange City and Gerritt Vossman Boyden with dates December 9 10.
Westmar College Concert Band under Dr Richard G Parker presents a Christmas and sacred music program Sunday evening December 16 at Thoren Hall. Soloist Vedma Nielsen violin plays meditation from Thaïs. Cornet Trio and Westmar String Ensemble appear. Handel Messiah Bach Prelude and Fugue in G minor. A single car accident occurred on December 7 at 11 OP OM near Ist nd 200 ft west of Ind Ave NL. Frerett Getto driving a 1939 Chrysler came from the west and turned the corner losing control. The car struck the curb causing $50 damage to the front end.
