Darwin Day files a lawsuit against Clara and Roy Warnsing alleging a December 24 1956 collision on county road A 44 miles east of Westfield. Day claims extensive damages including medical bills wages and permanent disability with pain and future suffering. He seeks a jury trial and a judgment of 26027 16 dollars plus costs.
The third annual Ee Mars softball tournament sponsored by the Le Mars American Legion posts begins Sunday September 1 at the Legion field with two area teams. Play runs through September 7. Prizes awarded for all games with special bonuses for top four teams. Entries due by Sunday. Team managers may contact Bob Walsh adjutant of the sponsoring Legion post at Le Mars.
A siren in Le Mars puzzled residents but was not tied to any highway incident. Patrolmen reported all local ambulances were where they should be, suggesting the sound came from an out of town ambulance en route to the hospital. Hospital staff later denied it was theirs.
Miss Arlene Kurtzhals was guest of honor at a personal shower on Thursday evening August 22. Classmates and friends attended. Gifts were given, games played, and lunch served by hostesses Mary Ellen Kellen, Marlene Schreiey, Trene Ruhland, and Marcella Staebelt. The bride-to-be will wed Ronnie Miller on Saturday September 7 at 8:30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Le Mars.
A terrace building demonstration will be held at the Puetz farm one mile east and 144 north of Le Mars in Eugene. The event is set for Thursday afternoon August 29 at 1 30 p m. Extension Area Soil Conservationist Elmer J Lund notes farmers are eager to learn terrace building this fall and invites all interested to observe the two methods, disc plow and whirlwind plow.
Sandra Beaulieu, 16, won the Plymouth Soil Conservation District Queen of the Furrow title at the Plymouth County 4-H Fair in Le Mars. She lives on a Liberty township farm with her parents Harold and miss Beaulieu, attends Heelan High School in Sioux City, and is active in 4-H with 30 blue ribbons in sewing and home furnishings plus two blue ribbons for calves. She will compete in regional contests September 2 at Sheldon, with nine regional winners advancing to state finals September 8 at Iowa State College Ames.
Globe-Post presents a 1957 Holiday on Ice ad turned into a jig-saw puzzle by Bill Hawkins. Cut along original lines, solve, then paste onto cardboard. Mail solution to Globe Post by August 31 for a chance to win five $3 tickets. winners’ names to be printed later.
A new auction method at Luken's Furniture Store lets customers bid on any item in the shop. Bids are recorded and Saturday high bidders are named. Bids above the tag price are automatically scaled down to the normal price.
The Elgin Emeralds held a Local Achievement Show on August 2 at 2 p.m. Judges Mrs Harpenau and Mrs Schneider presided. Karen Detloff spoke on skin care with four demonstrations, Kay Deiloff reviewed the club year, Edythe McDougall spoke on slips, Pat Penning and Charleen Dreckman and Janice Wills plus Karen Dreckman sang the 4-H field song. Sally Simpson sang Dreaming. Deanna Wills conducted the program and lunch followed.
A fire alarm was turned in around 9 30 p m Saturday at the home of Police Chief Fay Terpenning 321 3rd Ave S E. Firemen found sooty smoke burning out in the chimney and reported no damage to the house.
A 195 Chevrolet owned by Bernard Hoffman and driven by Marlene Hoffman collided with a Ford truck loaded with cracked corn about three miles south of Spa House on Neptune. The Hoffman car sustained 200 dollars in damage. the truck had left front damage but remained operable. Mr Hoffman was injured and the incident was investigated by Patrolman H Sweiler.
Recent fines in mayor's court include William Trautt of Akron for intoxication at $15 Art Leakman of Kansas for speeding and running a stop sign at $17.50 Bert Lewis fined $7.50 for running a stop sign George Stearns of Illinois fined $7.50 for running a stop sign.
Walmer Post No 241 of the American Legion in Indianapolis is cited by National Headquarters for outstanding service to children and youth. Commander Wilbur De Pree announces the honor based on a report detailing Boy Scout sponsorship, Camp Dodge participation, Boys State attendance, civic medals, junior basketball, and an annual Christmas gift program for needy children.
Senior high band students must attend all rehearsals led by band instructor Phil an. Rehearsals run Aug 26 to Aug 30 at Clark School Franklin School and Hgh School with specific times daily. Tuesday and Wednesday will be instrument free.
State conservation officer E F Newell of Sioux Center announced the exam deadline as September 1. Applications are available from the state conservation committee in Des Moines or from Mr Newell in Sioux Center. Applicants must be aged 25 to 38.
Marriage licenses were issued last week at the Clerk of Court’s office in Le Mars to Lewis Wenck of Glidden and Mary Elien Carlson of Pierson. Also listed are Daniel Buckley of Maurice and Mary Jane Allison of Le Mars, Charles Fre richs and Marilyn Hoffman of Le Mars, Orlan Jacobs and Patricia Anderson of Akron, Lee Lambert and Alice Schoenrock of Le Mars, Dale DeWaay of Tekamah Nebraska and Jana Lou Meyer of Kingsley.
Mr. and Mrs. Harley Hall of Le Mars announce the engagement of their daughter Sharon Rae, a University of Minnesota sophomore, to Gary Lyle Donlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Donlin of Le Mars. Donlin will be a sophomore at Weimar College this fall. No wedding date has been set.

Heweritz claims two years of tenancy and entitlement to rental and possession for March 1 1957 to March 1 1958, says owners unlawfully barred him, deprived crops and income, seeks $1000 damages, a writ of possession, immediate possession, and costs.
Izaak Walton announces a work night on Tuesday August 27 at 6 30 p.m. at the grounds one mile south and 42 west on highway 75. A general meeting for all members at the Eagles club follows Wednesday at 8 p.m. Everyone is urged to attend.
At 6 45 pm on August 23 at 1st Street Northwest and Highway 75 Le Mars a collision involved a 1950 Buick driven by Howard Ostlund and a 1955 Buick driven by Norman Barnett of San Francisco Barnett allegedly stopped to make a U turn when struck Ostlund’s car sustained 30 in damage while Barnett’s incurred 40 in damage per the mayor's office report.

Miss Bonita Ann Brinkert and James Dewey Driscoll united in a Friday evening ceremony at St John’s Laugheran church Sanborn Iowa. Rev Herbert Daib officiated in a double ring rite as family and friends attended. The couple’s attendants wore ice blue and wore carnations, with both mothers in blue dresses. A reception followed in the church parlors. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs G Brinkert of Primghar, taught kindergarten. the groom, son of Mr and Mrs Dewey Princall of Le Mars, served in the army stationed at Fort Sill Oklahoma.
