Miss Shirley Groetken daughter of Mr and Mrs Phil Groetken of Le Mars arrived at the airport to a Chamber of Commerce welcome. The queen accompanied by her father flew in with pilot Al Shorty Mattlay. Local clergy A W Behrens and Paul Alvey joined the delegation. Shirley, Iowa High School Rodeo queen, has three state championships in barrel racing western pleasure and cutting. She was a national contender in Lewiston Montana and will compete three more years in high school. She suffered a badly bruised left leg during Lewiston contests.

The Norman Smiths received a telephone call Tuesday from their daughter Mrs George Bindner of Marcus. She and her husband and family vacationing in the west were in the Yellowstone quake and floods. They escaped unharmed but had a frightening experience. Also noted are visits by Katherine Duster and Marzurettas Duster in Phoenix and Dr Ladabiireer's dental assistant work, plus Mrs H E Vander Steeg’s return from California to visit relatives in Hollywood and family.

Train Wreck Blocks Streets in Le Mars Crossing Chaos
A long noon freight train carrying creosoted bridge lumber wrecked today when a coupling broke on a flatcar. The weight of spilled lumber tipped a car at Third Avenue crossing, blocking all city crossings. Police freed cars to reopen 4th Street and parts of 3rd Avenue, with Central Avenue and north crossings still blocked at 1:40 PM. Fourth Street S W became through street with full stop signs. A Gus Peck Foundry derrick hauled the car upright after the bridge number was cleared. Lumber spilled toward the Jake Foreman home as spectators gathered for hours.

In mayor's court Don Steinfadt of Le Murs faced fines for running a stop light totaling 7.50 dollars. Max Ut esch of Brunsville was fined 55 dollars for reckless driving. In state court Philip Harris Yankton South Dakota was fined 19 dollars for speeding in a restricted zone. Rich ard Anderson Le Murs paid 20 dollars for failure to control his car following an accident reported in The Globe Post. James Walsh Sioux City was fined 28 dollars for speeding in a restricted zone. Jim Green spent last week in Chicago with his sister Margaret Green.

Suspects Resisted Arrest in Fergus Falls Case
Police officers Lee Schipper and Joe Sutton confronted two suspected parole violators, Darrell Moran 18 and Ronald Ross 19, at the home of Moran’s foster mother in the southwest town area. Moran hid under a bed. after a struggle both suspects were cuffed and later surrendered a number of oil filter cartridges. Moran, unarmed, sustained a pride wound as none fired a shot. Fergus Falls officers retrieved the pair Sunday morning, amid reports they were seen peddling oil cart ridge in the neighborhood following a chamber of commerce warning about peddlers.

Club Cafe to Reopen in Early September
Club Cafe owner Don Gintert says the cafe is being remodeled and should reopen in the early part of September. He and his family live at 420 South Lynn Drive, Mars, in the former Les Murphy residence. Murphy and Ginter, brothers-in-law, swapped homes. Wendell Renken and Darrel Gervietts of Plymouth county tied for top honors at the Plymouth county junior feeders show held at Siouxity stockyards last week. They won the Junior Master Beef Producer award among 19 Plymouth entries. About 247 cattle from Cherokee Plymouth and O'Brien counties were judged. Feed groups of three to 10 head tracked feed consumption and costs, with 80 to 90 percent of feeders earning money. Prices received matched other farmers' assessments that day.

Child Found Wandering In Nightdress Near Lena Bourke House
A five year old girl wandered from a residence on 6th Ave SE during a heatwave, found crying in a neighbor’s yard in her nightgown. Mrs. Fritz Mayroe located the mother, who came to take the child home after the girl indicated her name and her mother’s whereabouts. The mother had been at work on night duty. The child had been staying with another woman and wandered 252 blocks away before being discovered.
