Thomas Kool Undergoes Surgery After Sioux City Crash
Thomas Kool, recently moved from Orange City to Leeds, was seriously injured in an intersection collision in Sioux City on Sunday July 27. C W Moritz 66 who farmed near Remsen died at his home Thursday night after a long illness. Funeral services set for 10 a.m. Monday at St Marys Catholic Church Remsen. The Herman D Schuett estate farm near Boyden sold at 452 dollars per acre at public auction last Thursday to Herman C Winter. Norvain Winter living on the farm located two miles east and two north of Boyden 120 acres. Vellinga and Vander Tuig were the auctioneers. Welly Glue Bunny Dairy of Le Mars completed a sale last week acquiring the Kingsley Dairy formerly run by Harlan Grubb. Mr Grubb had operated the dairy the past three years having purchased from Don Curley. Dairy will continue home deliveries in Kingsley and Moville with Duane White as local manager and salesman. White previously worked at Kingsten Dairy one year. Mrs Elizabeth Coil spent four days in Sheldon this past week visiting her sister Loretta Carey housekeeper to Father Hyland. Mrs Eldon Blair and daughter from Aberdeen SD visited in the home of Mr and Mrs Bob Hoss this past week.

On Thursday August 8 Miss Marlen Murphy of Le Mars driving a 1950 Mercury eastbound lost control on gravel four miles south and two miles east on county road causing $130 damage to the left front. At 1:45 a.m. Darret Hartman driving a 1949 Mercury eastbound fell asleep at the wheel. The crash occurred at 2nd Street and 150 East on 2nd Avenue 5 in Le Mars, with $175 damage to the front end and $45 damage to a telephone pole.

A Chicago Northwestern train delayed about 7 p.m. Saturday near Le Mars when a hot box caused a wheel bearing on a tank car to flare. The burning car was removed and the train continued north. A brakeman stayed to extinguish the fire then signaled the engineer to proceed. The two diesel locomotives began to move, the brakeman sprinted to the caboose to catch the train as smoke lingered.
