Plant Iowa Week Drives Tree Planting Across State
Nearly 1000 Iowa towns join Plant Iowa Week to plant trees shrubs and muliflora rose and improve roadside parks and oaks. About 900 mayors and 700 chamber of commerce presidents were contacted to start programs for the week of April first proclaimed by Governor Beardsley. The effort is backed by Izaak Walton League Boy Scouts 4 H FFA and civil groups as part of Plant America and will continue through summer.

Plymouth County home gardeners can fit small fruits like strawberries raspberries and grapes into limited space says County Extension Director Are A Pierson. Small fruits yield quicker than large fruits with strawberries starting next year raspberries partial then full crops in year two or three and grapes in year four. A new county bulletin on raspberries covers pruning varieties pests diseases and fertilization available at the Counts Tatenson Office.

Preston Pearls 4-H Talent Show Supports Cancer Fund

Big Northerns In Spirit Lake Area Catch Report
The Consonation Commissions rough fish removal crews worked in the Spirit Lake area this spring catching and removing rough fish. About 16 pike were captured and released unharmed after measuring up to 45 inches. Most were weighed around 20 pounds with a few near 30 pounds, and spawning trips were conducted between lakes. Northern pike season will open later this year. A bar advertisement at Glob’s Post offered a $60 coupon worth $100 at Rumery stack near Mars Inn.
