Lou Puttman 79 a long time Pierson resident died Friday night at his Pierson home. Born February 4 1875 in Walcott Indiana he leaves a daughter Mrsanda Melson of Seattle and a brother Carl of Pierson. Funeral services were 230 pm Sunday at Salem Lutheran Church southwest of Pierson with Rev Richard Kamper officiating. Burial followed in a Pierson cemetery under direction of the Dickman Funeral Home Kingsley Indiana.

FBLA Survey Plans By Le Mars Chapter On Business Education
The Le Mars FBLA chapter will mail about three hundred questionnaires to graduates of the high school commerce department to learn how business courses aided their vocations and whether more emphasis is needed. Personal interviews will supplement data. A final report will combine survey results with prior Occupational Survey data to show the department’s educational value from both employer and employee views. Hinton high school earned recognition at the Iowa Tuberculosis and Health Association meeting to be held April 14 and 15 for submitting outstanding school press publications.

Hydrogen Balloon Explosion Singes Man in Le Mars
Le Mars police report a Sunday afternoon accident when Leslie Bunt inflated a large toy balloon with hydrogen gas and lit a cigarette. The balloon exploded, singeing his face and temporarily deafening him. He owns a genuine hydrogen blast device but only a hydrogen molecular type, not a nuclear blast.

Hospital To Jail Sioux County Man Faces 600 Day Sentence
Paul Leo O'Meara 23 of Craig farm was jailed for 60 days after an accident on Highway 33 north of Alton. He received 30 days for reckless driving 15 days for driving with suspended license and 15 days for uttering a bad bank check. He was hospitalized then transferred to Sioux County jail after brief medical observation. Sheriff Harry Dykstra reported no broken bones.

Farmers to receive price supports for resealing crops
The agriculture stabilization and conservation committee announced Friday that farmers will get 15 cents a bushel to resend price supported corn on their farms this year, 2 cents higher than under the 1953 program. State ASC Chairman Dwight W. Meyer said storage allowances will be 14 cents a bushel for wheat, 11 cents for oats, and 16 cents for flaxseed. Loans on these commodities mature April 30.

Mrs Minnie Bock 71 mother of Fred Pete Bock of Le Mars died Sunday at a Sioux City hospital after a sudden heart attack Friday. Born February 6 1883 in Moville she lived in Plymouth and Woodbury counties most of her life. Funeral services will be April 7 at the Moville home and Bethel Lutheran Church Lawton with burial in Trinity Lutheran near Hinton. Survivors include four foster sons nine biological children twenty seven grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Charles and daughter Anna.

New members D Terpenning and F McCarthy joined. From April 1 1943 to April 1 1954 the department answered 26 fire calls with total losses of 300 dollars the smallest in years. Mike Weber a longtime Ovens resident died April 15 1954 at about 4 15 p m after a heart attack. Born September 14 1884 in Luxembourg he came to the U S aboard the Zeeland March 20 1905 and settled near Currie Minnesota. He worked on farms and as a railroad helper clerk agent and operator at several towns before becoming agent at Ovens on June 18 1918 and retired Sept 1 1949. Funeral 9 30 a m Thursday at St Catherine Catholic Church Ovens with burial in the church cemetery. He served as St Catherine’s treasurer for 25 years and was active in R R telegraphers Knights of Columbus and Trinity Council of Le Mars. He lived with cousin Lena Kintzle after retirement.
