School year ends with early dismissal in Le Mars district

Le Mars Community school district will end classes May 28 for all grades except kindergarten and special education on May 29 students in grades one through eleven report from 1 to 2 30 pm for culmin ating activities and report cards seniors concluded their day earlier bus routes revised to depart four hours 15 minutes later than usual to ship students before 1 pm and return them home after 2 30 pm meanwhile Joe J and Sophie Levey sue Paul Gollhofer of Kensley in district court for 2125 back rent plus liquidated damages for a bakery premises in town

Corn Set Back Two Weeks By Hard Freeze

Plymouth county weather and crop report by Arlie A Pierson notes an unseasonably hard freeze damage. All emerged soybeans were killed and the corn crop is set back about two weeks. Weedy fields may be replanted to curb weed competition while the first alfalfa crop is cut to minimize forage losses. The county seeks rain and warm sunshine.

Koerner charged with drunk driving in fatal crash

Herb Koerner, 62, of 24iy Ply. St. NW, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after a single car crash that killed Mrs. Ben Gerdes, 57, instantly near Le Mars. He waived preliminary hearing, posted no bond, and was jailed pending district court. Mrs. Gerdes died when Koerner’s car left Highway 33, went into a ditch, and she sustained a broken neck.

Area Deaths Mrs Mattie Faber 83 Sioux City

Mrs. Mattie M. Faber 83 of Sioux City died Wednesday at home after a long illness. Born January 30, 1880 at Le Mars she was married to Mike Faber of Decatur Nebraska. They farmed near Walthill Nebraska before moving to Sioux City in 1922. Survivors include three sons Leonard Kenneth Earl all in Sioux City. three daughters Hazel Wright Rose Kamm Helen Beaubien. sister Dora Nixon of South Sioux City and two grandchildren. Collision Near Merrill Injures One Smashes Electric Organ

A 9 am collision on highway 7 south of Merrill injures one and damages two vehicles. A 1963 Ford panel truck driven by Francis Hickey carrying an electric organ collided with a southbound 1958 Ford driven by Roger Wieck. The panel truck rolled into the right ditch, the organ smashed. Wieck was taken to St Joseph Mercy hospital with possible rib injuries. Damage estimated at 100 dollars to the truck and 200 to the car.
