Koerner charged with drunk driving in fatal crash
Herb Koerner, 62, of 24iy Ply. St. NW, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after a single car crash that killed Mrs. Ben Gerdes, 57, instantly near Le Mars. He waived preliminary hearing, posted no bond, and was jailed pending district court. Mrs. Gerdes died when Koerner’s car left Highway 33, went into a ditch, and she sustained a broken neck.

Collision Near Merrill Injures One Smashes Electric Organ
A 9 am collision on highway 7 south of Merrill injures one and damages two vehicles. A 1963 Ford panel truck driven by Francis Hickey carrying an electric organ collided with a southbound 1958 Ford driven by Roger Wieck. The panel truck rolled into the right ditch, the organ smashed. Wieck was taken to St Joseph Mercy hospital with possible rib injuries. Damage estimated at 100 dollars to the truck and 200 to the car.
