Westmar College to award largest graduating class ever at June 7 commencement

Westmar college will confer degrees on a 138 member senior class in the largest graduation in the school’s history during the June 7 commencement. Westmar set to graduate 138 seniors in record class

Westmar will graduate 138 seniors this year, the largest class in its history, with commencement on June 3. Activities begin June 1 at noon with an alumni luncheon and class reunions, followed by a 6 30 pm banquet honoring classes of 03, 13, 23, 33, 38, 43, and 53. Sunday features a Delta Lambda Mus breakfast and honors. The baccalaureate is at 10:00 am with Rev. Donald R. Reker speaking, and Bishop F. Gerald Ensley speaks at 8 pm for the commencement address. Four honorary degrees are awarded: E. K. Bonebrake, Doctor of Laws. Dr. F. Gerald Ensley, Doctor of Divinity. D. R. Roker, Doctor of Divinities? Wait corrected: Doctor of Divinity honors go to Dr. F. Gerald Ensley, Des Moines, and D. R. Roker, Kearney, Neb. Merril W. Olson, Marshall, Minn., receives Doctor of Humane Letters. Unseasonable Cold Snap Continues With Possible Frost

Strong northerly winds and unseasonably cold temperatures persist through Monday. After a high of 70 degrees, the day cooled to near frost at 35 degrees. Tuesday remained chilly with 50s as residents are warned to cover tender garden plants tonight. Frost is expected again Wednesday morning with 29 to 33 degrees before a gradual warm-up.

Hospital admissions and discharges in Le Mars area

At Sacred Heart hospital three residents were admitted on Monday Roy Jones Carol Parkinson and Mary Kay Bortscheller all from Le Mars. Discharges included Mrs Joseph Kobermann Mrs Minert Britt Emma Sanow Harry Hawkins Mrs Chris Miller and the Clifford Berreth family all from Le Mars and Remsen.

Plymouth County Farm Bureau Women tour at Cherokee Mental Health Institute

The Plymouth county Farm Bureau women plan a visit to the Cherokee Mental Health Institute on Tuesday May 28. Women from Le Mars should arrive at the Farm Bureau office by 12:30 p.m. for the ride. Those not traveling from Le Mars meet at the hospital entrance at 1:30 p.m. sharp.

Le Mars Community seniors face a packed schedule after one day of school remains. Activities include Friday and Saturday Poppy Day observances by the American Legion Auxiliary to honor veterans and support disabled veterans and their families.
