Mrs Pete Charles underwent surgery Saturday at Luth era hospital in Sioux City. Her room number is 324. Twenty two women met April 30 in the Westmar college home economics department. Each has a college course in home economics. This is the first meeting of such a group here and plans were made to continue meetings.

Westmar senior Norma Schwarz from Merrill returned from the Pan American Games with a gold medal as part of the basketball team. She described the tour as hard work and noted the intense crowd reactions, including 35,000 tickets sold for the final games and fans whistling during free throws. She said the trip was worth the effort and the experience in South America.

Life's End 4. F. Clasen Retired Jeweler Dies
Herman Frederick Clasen 85 retired Le Mars jeweler and farm operator, died Tuesday at Sacred Heart hospital after a short illness. Funeral Thursday 2:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. James Ransom. burial in Le Mars Memorial under Mauer's funeral home. He was born August 24, 1880, and lived in Walnut Iowa. married Pearl Diediker in 1915. He operated a farm 1917-1937 and opened Clasen Jewelry in 1996, retiring 1959 while continuing watch repair at home. Surviving: wife Pearl, sons Stanley and James, daughters Eleanor Page and Dorothy Clasen, plus relatives.
