Chordsmen Benefit Show Draws Large crowd at Central
Floyd Valley Chordsmen hosted a benefit at the Central auditorium raising nearly 300 for the Plymouth County Association for Retarded Children. No admission charged, offering taken, MC Chuck Wiley led a program featuring Nipchords Klip Pers Hi Jinks Petite Trio and local choirs. Stage bands from Le Mars and Gehlen high schools played during and between acts. Anne Mauer sang with the LCHS Noteables band.

Peggy Rein king of Kingsley Pearson high school won senior division for mathematics display at the fifth annual Westmar college science fair. Second place ties went to Leland Sargison and Margaret Kuhn, both of Kingsley Piers on, for mathematics and analog computer displays, and Sharyl Vander Tuig with Donna Brunken of Le Mars for an amino acid study. Junior winners were Curt Bryant for spectroscope, Rachael Posthuma for embryology, and Richard Dykstra for exploding copper wires. Awards included Scientific American subscriptions, certificates and gold pins. Prof. James E. Diverbiss chaired the biology faculty. Robert Perrill was general chairman.

Pranksters Remove Large Cow Head From Wells Dairy Sign
Vandals damaged Wells Dairy by loosening and removing a six foot plasterboard cow head from a 3D sign near Highway 7. The sign, a special order from Wisconsin, was the area’s only one of its kind and valued at about 300 dollars. The head was found on Westmar campus near Eagle lawn ornament and later taken to police.

Life's End: Henry Dempster Dies at 68 in Plymouth County
Henry Thomas Dempster 68 lifelong Plymouth county resident and retired farmer died unexpectedly Sunday at his farm near Le Mars. Services Tuesday at Mauer's funeral chapel with Rev. Earl Ferguson and burial in Le Mars Memorial cemetery. Born April 33 1894 in Stanton township. Survived by wife Mary two sons Darrel a daughter Lowell and five sisters.
