Executive committee schedules a general and managers meeting for Monday March 25 at 8 p.m. in the Eagles club basement. Fathers or guardians of current and prospective players urged to attend to elect officers, select managers, and discuss plans to expand the program serving about 200 boys this summer.
Look Who's Here born to Mr and Mrs John DeRocher Merrill a daughter March 20 at St Joseph Mercy hospital Sioux City. Born to Mr and Mrs Dale Bunkers Granville a daughter March 21 at Sacred Heart hospital. Le Mars Community high school Bulldogs left by car Friday morning for the state boys basketball tournament at Des Moines. Accompanying them on the trip are Coach Fran Jones Jim Lorenzen Vance Stead and Eldon Clement.
Southwest winds dry mud and lift dust as temperatures rise from 28 in the morning to 50 by noon with 45 high on Thursday and 63 forecast for Saturday. Almanac predicts a mild week with a late period snow on the northern plains and heavy rains in the lower Mississippi valley. Dr H H Kalas and Mrs Kalas depart for Hawaii for the wedding of Harry Kalas Jr and Jasmine Kimura on April 6 with a two week vacation following.
Residence of Dr and Mrs R J Fisch at 512 Ply St SE has been sold to Gehlen School Corp for use as a rectory by priests at Gehlen School. Construction of a new home in Greenwood addition is under way for the Fisch family.
Mrs Bertha Pippett 73 longtime Kingsley resident died Tuesday night at a hospital funeral held 2 pm Friday at Kingsley Methodist Church burial in Arlington cemetery under Dickison funeral home She was born August 6 1885 at Ellsworth Iowa married May 6 1910 to Bert Pippett at Sioux City They lived on a Kingsley area farm for 53 years before retiring eight years ago Survivors include four sons Edward of Kingsley John of Phoenix Mason and Joseph of Scottsdale five daughters Ruth Gardner Joyce Williams of Sioux City Helen Liguori and Marjorie Meister of Albuquerque Betty Peterson of Scottsdale a brother Peter Espe of Sioux City 37 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren
District Boy Scouts from Plymouth Sioux Osceola and O Brien counties stage a Scoutingland exposition Saturday at the Orange City town hall featuring 30 to 40 live demonstration booths. Cub Scouts demonstrate pipe cleaner crafts and history while Boy Scouts exhibit lean-to construction cooking on a spit Indian dancing conservation and fingerprinting with arena shows for each performance. An attractive award will be given for booth quality operation and public interest. General admission is $1 per family with proceeds aiding local units and underrepresented communities.
Henry Louis Meyer 87 a retired farmer who moved to Plymouth County in 1898 died Thursday at Sacred Heart hospital after six weeks of illness He had been hospitalized since February funeral services set for Monday at St John United Church with Rev Harold Maxwell officiating burial in Le Mars Memorial Cemetery Mayer's Funeral Home in charge He was born September 12 1875 in Granaville son of Louis H and Eliza Moellering Meyer married Sarah Mohning December 7 1898 in Le Mars He lived in Plymouth County except four years in Montana survived by eight children 25 grandchildren 26 great grandchildren a brother John Meyer and three sisters The family notes two children died in infancy and his wife preceded him in death
Funeral services were held at Peace Lutheran church in Marcus for Mrs Emma Blietz longtime operator of the Marcus Greenhouse who died after a long illness. She was born August 9 1880 in Clayton County Iowa and lived in Marcus 37 years. She is survived by two sons Elmer and Albert two daughters Hattie Kruse and Mildred Broblek 16 grandchildren 24 great grandchildren and other relatives. Burial was in Marcus Amherst cemetery.
Funeral services for Mrs. C. P. Van Maasdam, mother of Don Van Maasdam of Le Mars, will be held at 1 30 p.m. Saturday at the First Reformed church in Maurice. Burial will follow in Maurice cemetery. She died Wednesday night at the Holland home in Sheldon.
Thieves broke into a King Kein Laundrette on Highway 75 north and stole contents from a money changer. The amount stolen is unknown. Tom Levers reported the theft Thursday. Similar coin machine thefts have hit Sheldon and Storm Lake laundries in recent weeks.
Edith G Meloy 68 died Tuesday in Cherokee after a brief illness and had lived in the Cherokee vicinity 63 years. She served as Red Cross secretary for 13 years. Survivors include son Charles Meloy and daughters Patricia Ivie of San Rafael California and Ann Meloy of Denver, eight grandchildren, and sister Mrs R J M Long of Le Mars. Funeral Thursday at Memorial Presbyterian church with burial in Oak Hill. Professor Harold Maxwell of Westmar College granted tenure. photo not available in time.
Graveside services for Mae F Searls 84 a former Sioux Cityan who died Saturday in Minneapolis were at 2 p.m. Friday at Riverside cemetery in Akron officiated by Rev David Roy of Emanuel Lutheran Akron. Burial was by Lewison funeral home Akron. Mrs Searls born May 9 1878 in Dubuque moved to Akron as a child. Survived by two daughters Arlene Griller Minneapolis and Boone Wilson Excelsior Springs seven grandchildren a sister Floy Hedton Akron a brother Morian Moore Akron.
