The couple arrived last summer from England. Mrs Thompson is sister of Mrs John Hodgson of Le Mars.

Storm dumps two inches of soggy slush and snow

A March storm dropped about two inches of snow and slush in Le Mars with 33 percent moisture. Rain on Monday gave way to sleet and snow by evening, leaving streets soggy and gutters full. Ducks and mallards were sighted along the Missouri river valley as spring forecasts promised warmer weather and a dry spell. Chuck Wiley will MC a Plymouth County Retarded Children benefit at 7 20 in the high school auditorium, with no admission but a free will offering for the association.

Life's End Ethel Viehe 92 Le Mars Resident

Ethel Viehe a Le Mars resident since 140 and longtime Sacred Heart Hospital patient died Monday at 92 after a two month illness. widow of retired minister Rev Paul Viehe services set for Wednesday at Mauer chapel with Rev James Rancem of First Presbyterian officiating. Burial in Le Mars Memorial. Born September 5 1870 in Rutland Illinois she moved to Le Mars as a child and married Rev Paul G Wiehe in 1922. The couple served pastorates in Clinton Glenwood Kingsley before returning to Le Mars in 140.

Funeral services for Happy Jack Watry in Le Mars

Funeral services for Happy Jack Watry 72 lifelong Le Mars resident will be at 10 am Thursday at St Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 8 pm Wednesday at the Wittgen-Luedtke funeral home. A correction notes rites were not on Wednesday as previously reported.

Boy Scout Drive Opens and Goals Set in 1963

Nels Newendorp chairs the Le Mars 1963 Boy Scout drive with Leo Flaher ty and Ed Sullivan as co chairs. An advance gifts drive will start in the business district this week and a residential drive will follow in a couple of weeks. The goal is 3409 to fund the fair share sustaining membership with local groups like Lions club, Rotary, churches, banks and businesses listed among supporters. A kick off breakfast is planned Thursday at 7 am at Club Cafe. Duane Butteneb resigns as Willow community post to head basketball at Aurelia after a long coaching career at Quimby and Willow with championships and high win records.

Grinnell College Receives Piranesi Etching Volume

Grinnell College has been presented with a complete set of 77 etchings by Italian artist architect Giovanni Battista Piranesi. The volume, valued near $6,000, includes the Pri son and Antiques of Rome series. Gifted by Mrs. John F. Murphy and Mrs. Elizabeth R. Carter in memory of Mr. Murphy, a Grinnell alumnus, the prints will be split between study collections and campus buildings for daily student exposure to significant art.

Farmers Mutual Ins to co sponsor boys state tourney TV

Plymouth Farmers Mutual Insurance Assn joins in sponsoring telecast of the Iowa boys state high school basketball tournament Friday and Saturday. The FarMutual network of five TV stations will cover the semifinal, consolation and final from Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines. Games may be seen on channel 4 KTIV Sioux City with Dale Williams as play by play and Frank Snyder on color. The Gehlen Home School association meeting is replaced by parent teacher conferences next week.
