Ground has been broken for a new Le Mars high school as spring approaches amid local talk of economic growth. The Daily Sentinel notes new type faces on its Ludlaw casting machine and recalls Armour’s plan to close its Sioux City plant drawing city leaders into debate on bonds and future industry.
St Clair's reports a very successful grand opening with over 100 dozen Cougnuts served and gallons of coffee. Winners from Le Mars listed for over $500 in merchandise prizes, including Henry G. Peck and Ed Plendl among many others, with various clothing and accessory items. An unrelated car fire near Kass City Service damaged a 1961 Chevrolet but flames were contained by extinguishers.
Funeral services for Mrs Clara L Hazel 63 who died unexpectedly at her home Sunday will be held at 9 am Wednesday at St Joseph Catholic church Le Mars. Born July 16 1899 at Ovens she married Joseph Hazel September 26 1916 and came to Le Mars in 192. Survivors include her husband two sons Roman of Sioux City Francis of Le Mars five grandchildren four brothers and one sister. She was preceded in death by parents and two siblings. Rosary at 8 pm Tuesday at Wiltgen Luedtke funeral home and viewing after 2 pm Tuesday.
A wedding license was issued today to Duane Groth aged 18 and Karen McConnell aged 19, both residents of Kingsley.

Weather dominated the week with thundershowers near Le Mars as dark clouds rolled in from the west. A tornado-like Twister touched down near Earl Buss farm, while rain fell Saturday afternoon. Forecasters warned of blizzard conditions by evening and snow turning to sleet and rain by Monday as colder air moved in.
Eugene Campbell aged 49 formerly of Ireton and Custer died Friday at Lutheran hospital Hot Springs D D after several weeks illness He was born May 27 1913 in Treton and later lived in Custer where he worked as a laboratory technician He is survived by his wife Xenia Campbell and his mother Mrs Lillian Campbell Funeral services were held in Custer and Le Mars with burial planned in Le Mars Memorial cemetery Rev R R Uecker and Rev Mile Morris officiating
A tornado struck the Earl Buss farm near Le Mars in Elgin township at noon Saturday, damaging four outbuildings, a car, a corn picker, a combine, and homes. A smoke house and garage were blown into a tree line, and a house window and porch were damaged. Neighbors saw the funnel cloud, and Myrna Utech’s farm nearby also suffered wind damage. Insurance will cover losses.
Mrs. Emma Dean, 97, longtime Le Mars resident, died early Saturday at a Le Mars nursing home from a light stroke and flu. Born March 4, 1866 in Chicago, she moved to Plymouth County in 1869. She married Frank Dean in 1898. he died in 1943. Survived by two daughters, a son, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. services Tuesday at Mauer Funeral Home, Rev. Chas. Kruser officiating. Burial in Le Mars Memorial Cemetery.
