Steel price hikes loom with wage, liquor law notes

A new steel pact signals higher steel prices likely affecting inflation. Separately a July 4 liquor law limits table hopping. patrons must be seated. Harold Callender, 37, of Le Mars, pleaded guilty to drunk driving in Sioux City, choosing jail over a $300 fine. He was arrested on Fourth Street.

Marriage licenses issued Friday to Wayne Russell 28 and Margaret Gengler 22 both of Le Mars and to Paul Braband 20 and Marian Skinner 18 both of Le Mars.

Treinen to Run Remsen Hiway Station on Highway 3

Ken Treinen formerly of Le Mars starts operation of the Hiway station and tap on Highway 3 on Remsen's south edge. He leased from Attorney Orville Hames who bought it from Enoch Johnson. The business opens Monday through Saturday at 4 am. The Treinen family moved to Remsen Sunday, leasing a nearby house. Prior to Remsen, Ken worked 24 years at Walter Cleaners in Le Mars. A grand opening will be announced later. Cub Scout Pack No. 14 meets at Calvary church Monday June 24 for a trip to Sanford Museum in Cherokee, with transport by Marvin Susemihl and a hamburger fry at Le Mars Municipal Park.

Dirks Frerichs Reunion Held in Akron Legion Hall

About 42 persons attended the Dirks Frerichs reunion at the Akron Legion hall on Sunday June 16. Guests included numerous Dirks and Frerichs families from Akron Le Mars Yankton and Council Bluffs with plans set for next year’s event to be held June 15 and coordinated by a long list of organizers.

Two Minnesota Families In Heads-On Collision Near Le Mars

Two Minnesota families returning from a vacation trip to Denver and the Black Hills reached Le Mars at 5 45 am Thursday. Their northbound cars collided at the four way stop of highways 75 and 3. The Perkins of St Cloquet and the Finberg of Wrenshall suffered about 500 dollars in damage each. The Perkins 1956 Oldsmobile had left rear quarter damage while the Finberg 1957 Plymouth had right front damage. Lt. Joe Sutton, investigating officer, reported 60 day license suspensions for Merle DeBoer 19 of Maurice habitual violator.

Victor Cloete Prepares Return Trip to South Africa

Victor Cloete, a foreign senior at Le Mars Community High School, plans to leave Saturday for Benoni Transvaal South Africa. Sponsored by American Field Service and host family Mr. and Mrs. Werb Floyd, Victor joined the class of 1963 last August and will tour the United States with other foreign students before returning home. He aims to attend college after draft obligations in the Transvaal and hopes to return to the U.S. someday.

Meister Hurt In Highway 20 Crash Near Lawton

Edwin Meister 34 of Kingsley was treated at Sioux City Methodist Hospital for a head cut after his car rear-ended a brick truck driven by 58 year old Harold C. Baumann of Sioux City on Highway 20 near Lawton. Both vehicles were westbound at the time.
