The Iowa Educational Broadcast network waits on HEW funding for two stations at Waterloo and Sioux City. John Montgomery says the HEW response is uncertain, with Waterloo funding more likely than Sioux City. Iowa asked for 461,000 for Sioux City and 464,000 for Waterloo.

Mayne calls Perry Creek flood plan overkill in Sioux City

Sixth district Congressman Wiley Mayne told the Daily Sentinel that support for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plan to build four Perry Creek dams for flood protection in southern Plymouth County is fading. He said Sioux City’s city council backs a less drastic, cheaper approach and noted the plan would displace 50 to 100 families while stressing downstream rights. He urged a balanced solution that protects all citizens' rights and reduces costs.

Winter storm threatens northwest Iowa with heavy snow

A major storm from the Rockies is expected to reach northwest Iowa tonight with a heavy snow watch. Rain totaled .67 of an inch Thursday night, with up to 4 inches of snow or more forecast for tonight and Saturday. Flash flooding may occur in southern Iowa as winds shift from south to northwest. The almanac predicts a snowy start to the New Year and stormy conditions in central and western areas from the 4th to the 7th.
