Two recent property closings show demand rising in LeGrand with T N Leetch buying the Ole B Olson home on East Main for 1000 and Morris Nodland purchasing the W C Arnold place in the southeast for 1700. Leetch plans to move his family. Nodland will leave the farm with son Gus taking charge as locals welcome newcomers.
Public schools opened Monday with very large attendance. About 180 students enrolled by Tuesday morning. Hamlet Hall hosts the high school this year while the old building houses the grades, and crowded rooms prompt anticipation for the new building. Ninth grade Agriculture studies weeds, new courses include Physics German Domestic Science Manual Training General Science. eleventh grade girls take sewing, boys manual training under Miss Davidson and Mr Cagewell. New students include Helen Mills, Frank Outland, Letha Bailey, Leoles Grow, Selmer Reedale, Alma Rosdale, Anna Prescott, Garrett Olson, Kendrick Meltvedt, and Edward Meltvedt.
Dolese Bros secured a contract to strip 151000 cubic yards of dirt at quarries between now and January 1. A.G. J. Christensen and family from Jewell arrived Friday for a visit staying with Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Shollenbarger and relatives. Sawyer family reunion at Ole Sawyer home near Gillman drew 150 plus representatives, many from Illinois, with a large picnic. Sharp storm caused lightning to strike M. T. Tweet’s straw stack igniting it. neighbors rushed to fight the fire, barn saved but straw ruined. Lightning also struck A. T. Sawyer’s barn but pose of bolt grounded with no damage.
