Four youths and two girls, Helen Mills and Gladys Rubenbauer, were in a Ford when a calf darted into the road near the Wm. Parsons place in Marion township. The car flipped. Gladys Rubenbauer died from neck injuries. Helen Mills, Elmo Sharp, Ivan Harrison, and Elmo's companion were injured but recovering, with reports of varying severity and care after the crash.

Large crowd fills the family home and yards as Rudolph and Matilda Rubenbauer mourn Gladys born March 24 1898 near LeGrand She was a LeGrand High School senior to graduate soon and the commencement exercises were canceled in her memory The service was led by Rev Dahl with a German Evangelical Lutheran Church quartet and pallbearers Irvin Emmett Charlie Handorf and others The interment followed at Rock Valley cemetery leaving three brothers and a sister to mourn.
