White Man God to Indian Tribes Remains of Patterson as Medicine Men Staffs

The Smithsonian records reveal carved canes used by Indian medicine men depicting a white man in a top hat and green coat. These Stands honor Doctor William Patterson, a 17th century Scottish doctor who led a short lived Gulf of San Bias colony established in 1698.
