Losses From Disease Plague Poultry Breeding

Dr. W. A. Hagen of the New York Veterinary College warns that disease losses are greatest in poultry due to ground grazing and small-range conditions. He notes that breeding for high production weakens birds, and a 200 egg hen can exceed its weight in eggs yearly, risking more losses unless constitutional vigor is bred in.
