A Colby letter describes a head on collision near Yankton in which Austin Myers of Huron S.D. and his family were injured amid a drunken driver incident. Father and mother plus two children were hospitalized. Austin suffered double leg injuries, the son was severely cut and bled heavily before aid arrived. The Ladies Literary and Musical Club met with Mrs. Chas Dunnam as hostess. They decided on a community Christmas program for December 19 at the school house. Mildred Mertvedt played March Winds, Mrs. Glenn Mills reviewed Good Earth, and a piano duet by Mrs. Harvey and Mrs. Sawyer closed the program. Next meeting is New Year’s Day with a basket dinner in the club rooms.
Lucky Leaf 4-H club members and mothers met at Mrs John Haynes home for a festive dinner. Miss Gertrude Cookinham spoke on club work and next year plans. Hilda Rylander and Louise Johnson won first place at the Horticultural Exposition with a bouquet arrangement demonstration, earning the club a $15 check for its treasury.
Two Thanksgiving games at the high school gym drew a small crowd due to late notice. Gilman won the close opener 35 to 34 as Radloff filled in, with Manship boosting points and a tight finish. In the second game the Collegians routed Gilman 91 to 14, showcasing a dominant visitor performance and a historic scoring gap.
Last week Mrs. Ben Baumgartner and her Sunday school class visited Mr. and Mrs. Donald Rouska at the Cal Dougherty home on Friday night. They shared games, brought religious refreshments, and gifted a casserole set and a blanket from the O. E. S. to the Rouskas.
