Auto Accidents Claims Nettie Tow on Lincoln Highway
Miss Nettie Tow of Cedar Rapids died in a head on collision on the Lincoln Highway three miles west of Nevada last Friday night. The Tow sisters were en route from Grand Island Nebraska to LeGrand to visit their brother Jesse Tow when a speeding Ford veered and crashed, killing Nettie and seriously injuring Lillian and Julia Tow. Six youths in a Skeen auto were joy riding and caused the crash by passing another car and ramming the Ford into a ditch. Lillian Tow remained unconscious for hours with serious concussion. Jesse Tow learned of the crash late as he was traveling with a party to Canada. Nettie Tow had run a Missoula tea room before returning to Cedar Rapids. The event underscores dangers of reckless driving on congested highways. The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union will meet Sept. 1 at 2:30 p.m. at Mrs. J. W. Piper’s home. A plow disc was found on the Loat-On road north of Glene Mills, with finder urged to return it. Mrs. G. F. Wise of Toledo visited with granddaughter Chloris and Franklin Ludwig and returned home last Saturday.
