Rioting in Cape Town prompts armed police escorts
Cape Town and inland towns saw fresh unrest after a night of rioting that left at least five dead and 12 injured. Police reported 30 arrests as white motorists were escorted in convoys to avoid stoning while crowds burned and looted in Ravensmead and Salt River. Prime Minister Vorster rejected black sharing of power and warned of harsher action, while Kissinger pursued regional peace efforts and Rhodesia talks.
