U.S. Jewish Leaders Press for Greater Israel Aid Fundraising
Jewish and interfaith groups rally to raise funds for Israel as the war with Egypt and Syria intensifies. Israel has spent about 1 billion dollars, with the State of Israel Bond Organization reporting about 120 million raised since fighting began. The United Jewish Appeal seeks 100 million by week’s end, while donors in New York pledged 19.4 million at a single event. Enhanced volunteer drives in the U.S. target aid, refugee labor, and humanitarian relief amid protests, counter-protests, and political calls for strong U.S. backing.
