Cornbelt Farmer Takes On One Of Earth's Biggest Gambles
Boone Iowa AP Cornbelt farmer Marshall King manages a large, costly operation with 8 acres of cropland near Boone. He sells about 1000 cattle and feeds nearly 40 hogs as inflation and rising costs squeeze profits while loans and parity policy loom in a fragile farming economy. King seeks low feed prices yet high crop prices for profitability. He notes bankers tightening credit and family farms shrinking as new investors lag. His son Jon plans to join the operation someday.
