Justice Bureau To File Dock Strike Suits Today
The Justice Department will file suits in 12 East and Gulf Coast ports to compel 45,000 striking dock workers to return to work under the Taft Hartley Act. An 80 day cooling off period is sought with injunctions in multiple cities and a 10 day temporary restraining order first. The action follows a Nixon order and aims to curb the 57 day strike by the International Longshoremen's Association.
