Republicans Plan To Cancel Funds Voted By Demos

Washington May 2. Senate Appropriations Chairman Bridges says Republicans intend to cancel about 7.0 billion dollars in prior Democratic appropriations to cut federal spending, aiming for a 4.5 billion dollar reduction below President Truman’s estimate. He notes old appro priations were issued for the year starting July 1 and may be rescinded or funded via savings, with specifics on agencies yet to be named. Bridges disputes Truman’s reasoning that such cancelations do not affect budget expenditures, arguing the money has already been spent and must be covered by regular appropriations. The CCC notes reduction may alter the outstanding amount.
