Estimates Dramatically Cut Agriculture Budget in House Pivot

Washington May 23 The House Appropriations Committee approved a 32 percent cut to the Agriculture Department sending the bill to the House floor. The package totals 463,842,475 for the year starting July 1, with 225,000,000 in loan authorizations and 10,425,710 in permanent appropriations. The action trims 283,427,742 from President Truman’s request, surpassing other budget reductions as the panel seeks selective cuts following weeks of hearings.
