Anchorage family makes do with modest income amid high costs

Dick and Liska Snyder with three children live in Anchorage, the nation's most costly medium city, earning 12500 annually. He works as a hydro logic technician for the USGS while Liska manages the home. They cut costs by growing food buying meat on the hoof and preserving resources. They spend about 80 a month on food and rely on home repairs and do it yourself projects to save. They face limited extras and hope for a larger kitchen and dining area completion and a newer car someday.
