Turner Will Visit City On Army Day
Gov. Roy J. Turner will be guest of honor at Lawton’s annual Army Day parade on Tuesday April 6 announced by parade chairman Lew Craig at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon. A 43 minute march will run east on C avenue to Second, then west on D with a reviewing stand near the courthouse. The governor will be special guest of Maj. Gen. Chit Andrus, Fort Sill commander, as troops parade and military equipment is displayed on the courthouse lawn. Local bands floats and veteran groups are expected to participate. Public Health committee praised the milk shed for high standards and low venereal disease rates. 4800 gallons of grade A milk produced daily with 2600 consumed locally and 2000 marketed nearby. The committee is studying garbage disposal and stray animal ordinances.

Mrs. H K W Powell 67 a longtime Lawton resident and Oklahoma pioneer died at 1 15 a m in an Oklahoma City area hospital from internal injuries suffered March 3 when a car she rode in left an icy highway near Minco and plunged down a embankment. She was born March 31 1881 in Pike County Missouri and married Harvey W Powell December 10 1899 at Henrietta Texas. The couple later made their home at Ryan in Indian Territory.

William T. Chapman a 28 year old forecaster was assigned to Fort Sill to handle civilian weather information for Southwest Oklahoma. The Lawton Chamber of Commerce led a campaign to improve local weather data and Chapman will report findings to the Wichita Falls weather bureau for distribution to local media.

Six Killed in Illinois Building Blast Night Rescue Efforts
