Sun Smiling On Oklahoma Thaw Starts

A freak weather accident killed a 62 year old Cyril man when ice fell from an awning. Southwest Oklahoma welcomed a spring like thaw as the storm subsided. Bright skies and rising temperatures turned icy streets to slush and set new March warmth records for the wintry period.

Weather, Wrecks Shape Cold Week in Cyril and Lawton

A strong cold snap yielded a jaw dislocation from yawning Mrs A F Jones in Gore. In Cyril, 62 year old Jim Smith died after an awning collapsed under ice weight at the American cafe, injuring others. Water pipes burst and storefronts faced wintry blasts as repairs and snow plows worked. Lawton lanes opened gradually with one-way traffic by noon as crews cleared highways 52 and V7. several slick intersections caused noninjury crashes. Warmer weather forecast and expedited road work were expected to ease conditions by Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p m Saturday for James P. Tulsa report details lie detector tests on Woody Thomas 28 charged with killing Helen Beavers 23 in Duncan Oklahoma. State Man Injured Fatally In Fall While Carrying Log

McALESTER Oklahoma March 17 Thomas Ketcherside 44 died in a hospital last night of injuries from a fall while carrying a log to his home near Peaerable County Attorney Fred Whetsell said he was found unconscious by a daughter alarmed when he did not return after entering a wooded area to cut the log. He apparently struck his head on the log when he fell.

Five Western Powers Draft 50 Year Mutual Aid Pact

Five western European powers led by Britain and France approved a 50 year draft treaty to halt the spread of communism. The pact binds Britain France Belgium the Netherlands and Luxembourg to commit military power if any signatory is attacked and aims to support economic social cultural and mutual aid within the UN framework. Mrs Lillie Harney 87 longtime northeastern Comanche County resident died at her Fletcher area farm home after a heart attack. Born Lille Carnaham near Murfreesboro Tennessee she moved to Oklahoma in 1902 with husband T F Harney. Meyers Case Goes To Deliberating Jury

Washington March 12 A federal court jury began deliberations in Maj. Gen. Bennett E Meyers subornation of perjury case after an hour long charge from Federal Judge Alexander Holtzoff The retired 52 year old officer is accused of persuading Bleriot H LaMarre to lie to a congressional committee to hide profits from a wartime subcontracting firm The judge reminded jurors a defendant may stay off the stand and that the sole issue is whether Meyers induced LaMarre to commit perjury.

200 More State Schools To Be Eliminated Next Year

Bond Issues Approved For Texhoma Improvements

Oklahoma City March 12. Attorney General Mac Q Williamson approved a 40000 bond issue for Texhoma in Texas County. The plan allocates 30000 for a hospital and 15000 for a fire station.

Blaze Damages City Residence Blazes at Fort Sill duplex

A fire at 208 Euclid Avenue damaged a Fort Sill duplex, nearly destroying two rear rooms. Curtains ignited by a gas stove started the blaze, which burned for some time before a bystander alerted Lawton firefighters. Mrs. Rone and Mrs. Honey and their infants escaped unharmed as flames reached the back of the house. Damages were placed at about 14.06 to the structure and 1,300 to contents.
