Law enforcement meets with state Muslims in Oklahoma City
Law enforcement officers met with Muslim leaders this week to build understanding and reduce tensions in the working relationship. FBI official Michael Ward said balance is needed between aggressive leads and fair treatment. Leaders described the meeting as productive and informative, with talks on profiling and how Muslims can assist police. The plan includes mosque presentations, an FBI open house, and quarterly follow ups. Norman Police Chief Cotten invited a leader to share Islamic culture with recruits to improve responses to Muslim contacts. Ward noted the outreach arose from both the FBI task force and the Muslim community, stressing that most Muslims are good and supportive of law enforcement.
