Oklahoma Highway Director Defends System Amid Plans
Oklahoma Highway Director Frank Lyons told the House Roads and Highways Committee that the 12,000 mile road system has both strengths and flaws and Oklahomans need not be ashamed. He urged long range planning and a retirement system for state employees, citing turnover in the Highway Department. The committee sent four bills with do pass recommendations, including taxation and maintenance provisions for city annexed county roads, and court-set appraiser fees in condemning actions. It also supported two money bills totaling 607,100 for the next two years for the state treasurer and the state Industrial Court.
