Toughies Calm Down In His Art Classes
Del City High School in Oklahoma City uses art class to reform discipline with 36 year old Montee Hoke, a former Marine and wrestling coach. About 10 percent of his students arrive from other classes for behavior issues, but they often become engaged in art and improve in other subjects. Hoke allows freedom in class and supports self expression, including painting a purple cow. He balances art with wrestling coaching and finances summer studies through selling his pottery.
