Wheat Bins Near Capacity Across Oklahoma Harvest Nears
Oklahoma grain elevators report near to over capacity as the 1977 harvest nears completion. In Marshall Logan County about 60 000 bushels sit beside Main Street with a 200 000 bushel capacity. Co op manager Rick Weathers says the high school football field may be used if stores rise further. About 95 percent of area wheat has been harvested while northwest regions see rains slow progress. Co op manager Bob Hammer notes full elevators at Clyde Medford with 5 000 bushels on the ground and says the first ground wheat in 14 years may occur east of there. Government loan guarantees in Grant County stand at 2 23 a bushel. Agricultural officials project 169 million bushels statewide with 22 25 bushels per acre in north central and 22 26 in the southwest. Extension director L D Warkentine cites yields up to 50 70 bushels in some counties. Harvesting continues statewide.
