Goodyear Blimp Delivers Skyward Lawton Spectacle
Lawton residents lined the Municipal Airport as the 192 foot Goodyear blimp offered rides to local news staff and thousands from 8 20 p m to 10 p m. Pilot Don McDuff and a two engine gondola carried four passengers including Dennis Lang Mike Ray and Jeff Dixon during the first lighter than air flight in Lawton. The craft hovered at 35 mph over landmarks including the Lawton Country Club as crowds cheered and games paused to watch the hovering spectacle. The descent ended with a quiet grass landing and a sense the experience was over.

Rio To Assume Flight Schedule In Early August
Continental Airlines will transfer operations in Lawton and Wichita Falls to Rio Airways by August 1. Rio will operate four daily Dallas to Wichita Falls Lawton Oklahoma City flights with one continuing to Tulsa, while service to Lubbock and Midland Odessa will end. Continental receives $62,000 yearly profit guarantee for Rio. Last week CAB approved the transfer amid ongoing cutbacks after a pilot strike.
