Lawton city council rejects a federally sponsored housing for the elderly program citing the 1974 public housing freeze. In Medicine Park a tiny red car like a mini Volkswagen drives down the street with a man at the wheel. The Tecumseh motor powers it to about 40 mph and it runs on a half gallon tank, with no license possible due to its size. The owner hopes it hints at future gas saving vehicles.
Oklahoma leaders agree to adjourn on the session’s 90th day next Wednesday after Senate approval of a 4 percent use tax to raise about 22 million annually. The common school compromise includes a 900 dollar teacher raise and various program funding. EdTEA and state labor bills also cleared conference committees as end of session moves forward.
Senator Bartlett of Oklahoma will visit Lawton on Thursday meeting with the Lawton Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club. He will attend an 8 a.m. breakfast at Montego Bay Motel then tour Fort Sill facilities including the Field Artillery School and DA FE before a noon luncheon. Tickets cost 3.50.

United States spokesman said preliminary accords on major economic questions in the North South dialogue unraveled as negotiators widened the issues. Secretary of State Cyrus Vance delayed departure as disagreements persisted among 19 developing and eight industrialized nations amid energy questions.
The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures through Thursday. Winds will be light and variable tonight. Thursday's high should near 90 degrees with a mid-60s low tonight. Tuesday's high was 78 and the overnight low 63.
Oklahoma Transportation Commission will open bids June 24 for the Sheridan Road phase II project the $2.5 million widening and reconstruction segment from Cache Road south to Lee Boulevard. If bids pass review a contract could be awarded at the July 5 meeting.
