Rain brings relief amid damage to Oklahoma farms

An inch to an inch and a half of rain fell across southwest Oklahoma aiding crops stressed by heat. A milk cow herd on the Sullivan farm suffered 10 electrocutions when a 220 volt highline broke during a storm, 200 feet of line killing cows in its path. The dairy firm run by Elbrege and Wendell Sullivan faced about 52,000 dollars in losses valued at 200 per head, with neighbors noting higher value. Temporary repairs were made to resume pumping. Rain also delayed broom corn harvest in Sterling and Rush Springs, though the crop is strong, labor is scarce, and markets are unsettled.
