First 18 Year Old Recruits Headed to Fort Sill
Fort Sill authorities announced 67 new 18 year old soldiers will arrive Monday to form an advanced unit of a provisional training battalion. The contingent, part of a planned 500, will train eight weeks under a hand picked NCO cadre.

City NG Unit Has Huge Job At Fort Sill
The 760th Ordnance company with 69 members at Fort Sill will support the 45th National Guard division during two weeks of active duty starting Monday. They will maintain 275 vehicles including 385 jeeps 2500 GMCs and 200 assorted wheeled vehicles under civilian commander Capt Leonard Wilson.

Two Guardsmen Hurt in Mishap Near Gracemont
Two Weatherford soldiers in an army jeep were injured when the vehicle overturned one mile north of Gracemont during a hastily dispatched unit trip toward Fort Sill. James Frizzell and Noland Williams sustained injuries. Edward Smith and Lt Thacker were unhurt.

Pittsburgh Man Dies After Truck Hits Bridge Railing
Clement Jenning Duprie twenty two died in a hospital from head injuries after a truck driven by his father Lawrence J Duprie veered and struck a bridge railing on Rock Creek north of McAlester. The youth was asleep in the back of the truck and was thrown from the vehicle. This death marked the two hundred sixty ninth Oklahoma highway fatality of the year.

Fire Destroys Wagon Wheel Tavern in City
A fire at the Wagon Wheel tavern at 13th and Lee destroyed the building early today. Fire Chief Leroy Julian said the blaze, which started at the rear and spread to the roof, was out of control upon arrival at 2 30 a.m. The tavern is operated by A P G Boots Gent 111 D, while the building owner’s identity had not been learned.
