HEW Ordered to Act Against 46 Districts Nationwide
Judge John Sirica ruled that the Department of Health, Education and Welfare must move within 60 to 120 days to enforce desegregation across 46 districts outside the South. The order threatens federal funds for noncompliance and names districts in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Tucson, Omaha, and Hartford.
