U.S. Urges limits on foreign investment in apartheid South Africa
A Senate subcommittee report finds American firms in South Africa largely failed to oppose apartheid and often profited from it. It urges discouraging new investment, denying tax credits to firms supporting apartheid, and notes major companies employ about 100,000 South Africans, with 70 percent Black. The survey covers 75 firms including Mobil, GM, Ford, IBM, GE, and Chase Manhattan.
