Tom Tate Declines Re-Election Bid
Tulsa based Rep. Tom Tate, famed for breaking the 54 year old barrier on weekly mileage pay for legislators, announces he will not run again. At 28 he won mileage pay in 1961 and led a push for higher pay, a fight that failed at the polls. He cites practical reasons and hopes Oklahomans see that paying lawmakers only 100 dollars a month is shortsighted and invites corruption.
