Cuba and United States Reach Indirect Antihijack Accord
The agreement marks a step toward improving relations while Washington maintains Cuba must shift its hostile stance and stop exporting revolution. Indirect talks via Swiss channels produced major concessions on extradition and hijacker escapees, with no face-to-face meetings between U S and Cuban officials. A pair of hijackings to Havana last fall pressured Havana amid the crisis.

Escapee Forces Car Theft After Lunch at Hospital
Oklahoma City police said Miller grabbed a bread knife from a hospital guard and took the pistol, then forced the guard to drive. The pair were in a parked car when Miller opened the door and ordered them to follow his directions. En route to Lawton, Miller forced a clothing change and directed them to stop at a store. He grabbed about $80 from a clerk before driving off five blocks and fleeing on foot after a sighting by Officer Ezell. No injuries were reported. Miller, a former inmate, had previous armed robbery convictions and long sentences.
